Frequently asked questions
What image formats can I compress?
You can compress JPG, PNG and WebP images. You can also convert an image to JPG or WebP while compressing it.
Will compressing an image reduce its quality?
Compression may slightly reduce image quality, depending on the quality setting you choose. A higher setting preserves more detail, while a lower setting creates a smaller file.
Why does my PNG file sometimes remain the same size?
PNG uses lossless compression, so some PNG images cannot be reduced significantly without changing their format. Converting the image to JPG or WebP will often produce a much smaller file.
What quality setting should I use?
For most images, 80% provides a good balance between appearance and file size. Use a lower setting for a smaller file or a higher setting when retaining detail is more important.
Are my images uploaded or stored?
No. Your images are processed privately in your browser and are not uploaded to or stored on our servers.
Can I compress images on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The Image Compressor works in modern browsers on desktop computers, phones and tablets.
